Some of Turkish Movies and Series

When you live in country for a long-term and want to learn Turkish language, you certainly must had tried couple of different methods to learn faster. One of these famous methods of learning any language is to engage with the people more and force your unconscious mind to speak the language even when you are a beginner. Another method is to full your mind with the language more, listen to Turkish songs more, pick a Turkish movie at the cinema or at home, try to begin to follow up a new Turkish series online, When you listen to the Turkish people speaking, talking and having dialogues between each other, you will enrich your vocabularies and you will start to understand the local proverb and idioms, which can’t be picked up always from the books, it needs direct interaction like talking in the street or face to face, or undirect interaction through a movie or a series.

Hababam Sınıfı

The 1970’s Hababam Sınıfı movie series is a comedy classic. A team of private school students – led by famous actors including Kemal Sunal, Tarık Akan and Münir Özkul – wreaks chaos and memorable mayhem on their headmaster and fellow students. I remember myself watching Hababam Sinifi in the Magic Talk Academy in Turkish Language class at the beginning levels, they tend to get us used to the language in the class to understand the local spoken language.

Tosun Paşa

Talking of Kemal Sunal, arguably the most popular comedic actor in Turkey, this is yet another must-see. This involves two opposing Turkish families vying for a valuable piece of land. One family comes up with the bright idea of dressing up their butler as a general of the Ottoman war named Tosun Paşa.

Eşkiya

One of the most important roles for Turkish actor Sener Sen, Eşkiya follows the story of a notorious gangster called Baran. After being released from prison after a term of 35 years, he will confront a society that has dramatically changed to find a way to avenge his history and all the men who have wronged him.

Diriliş

Diriliş: Ertuğrul “Resurrection is a Turkish historical fiction and adventure television series created by Mehmet Bozdağ, starring Engin Altan Düzyatan in the namesake leading role. It was filmed in Riva, a village in Beykoz, Turkey, and premiered on TRT 1 in Turkey on December 10, 2014. The show is based on the history of the Muslim Oghuz Turks and takes place in the 13th century. It centers around the life of Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I, who was the founder of the Ottoman Empire.

Kış Uykusu

He had already made a name for himself with Distant and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia even before Nuri Bilge Ceylan earned the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Kış Uykusu (Winter Sleep) 2014. His award-winning film revolves around the tale of Aydın, an actor-turned-landlord in a remote Turkish village who has to cope with his strained relationship with his family and with one of his tenants.
