Learning any language is very important thing, it adds a lot of knowledge to the personality of us, in Turkish they say “Bir lisan bir insan” that means every language adds another person to our knowledge. You are very lucky if you live in Turkey the same time while learning Turkish, because by that way your learning will be much faster, you will be practicing anywhere with any one, all adds up in practice which will pay back the result and start feeling confident when you talk. In this article, I am going to talk about the most important basic sentences we use in Turkish language in restaurants, hospitals and in general.
Geçmiş olsun
In Turkish language, we use this sentence in many different places, the promise of good wishes to those who fell ill, had an accident, survived an unexpected big negative situation, or entered prison. If you visit a patient in a hospital and wanted to wish him good wishes. Also, if any car accident or unexpected thing happens you say it too.
Afiyet olsun
A word that can be said to someone before eating, while eating, after eating, may not be welcome to say after the food is emptied.
Kolay gelsin
A word that is said to whom is working or training, doing something hard basically, it is a small word to the person for wishing him the job would be done easier.
Güle güle
This small sentence is used in terms of good road trip and health, if you finish a meeting with someone and say güle güle, it is like saying goodbye or bye bye in English. Also, it is used when someone buy a new thing or starting a social relation which means “with peace of mind, without sorrow”, or güle güle kullan that means enjoy it and have fun.
İyi Yolculuklar
A sentence
that is used when someone is heading for a journey or a trip, in English it means
“Bon voyage”, “Enjoy the journey”, or “Have a nice flight”.
Günaydın, İyi günler, iyi akşamlar, and iyi geceler
Same as English when we are talking to someone through the day, Günaydın means good morning. İyi günler means have a nice day. İyi akşamlar means good evening. And, as you might guess İyi geceler means good night. You can say these sentences when you meet someone or when you are about to leave him/ her.
Welcoming and greeting sentences
First word is Merhaba, I am pretty sure that you hear this word a lot, it means Hello in English. The first thing you ask when you meet someone is to ask about him/ her, like how are you? This sentence in Turkish means “Nasılsın?”, and the answer is in English “I am fine what about you?”, in Turkish language it means “iyiyim sen nasılsın?”, and at the end of the dialogue you would “pleased to meet you” which means in Turkish language“memnun oldum” or “tanıştığımıza memnun oldum”.
